AHMED

You are welcome to my website!

My name is Mufutau Adejinmi Ahmed. Everyone calls me Mufu. I am a Yoruba artist, born and raised in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. After completing a degree in Elementary Education and Art at St. Andrews College in Oyo State, Nigeria, I attended the Nike Center for Art and Culture in Oshogbo, Nigeria, where I learned traditional indigo and batik cloth-dying from Nigerian artist Nike Davies, and quilt- making, reverse appliqué, and welded-metal sculpture from German artist Georgina Beier. For several years I ran the Nike Center Gallery, and taught welding classes there.

Starting in 1992, I began my own business in Nigeria creating doors, gates and sculptures on commission, in addition to making quilts and batiks. I traveled to Germany, France and the U.S. regularly for exhibitions, and sold my work to international corporations and embassies based in Nigeria. In 2000 I was one of the artists whose textiles covered the Nigerian Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany.

I am available to do public or private commissions, classes and performances. Call me – let’s talk!
